Cutter Head TBM: A Precision Tool for Modern Tunneling

Tunnel Boring Machine,  as an efficient and precise tunneling equipment, plays a vital role in modern tunnel engineering. Among them, the Cutter Head TBM  is the core component of the shield machine, which has excellent cutting ability and work efficiency, and provides great convenience for tunnel construction.

1. Working principle

Cutter Head TBM pushes the cutter head into the ground through the propulsion of the equipment, and at the same time cuts and breaks the soil through the knives on the rotating cutter head. After the soil is cut and crushed by the cutter, it is transferred to the tail of the shield machine, and then transported out of the tunnel through the penetration pipe or conveyor belt. During the whole process, the shield machine will continue to advance, and the cutter head will be replaced and maintained at the same time.

2. Structural features

The cutter head structure of Cutter Head TBM has the following characteristics:

1. Knives: Knives are one of the most critical parts of Cutter Head TBM. They are usually made of hard alloy and other materials to provide strong cutting force and wear resistance. 3. Cutting chamber: The cutting chamber is the space where the cutterhead and cutters cut and break the soil. The design of the cutting chamber should consider factors such as the physical properties of the soil, the transmission of the cutting force, and the discharge of the soil to ensure cutting efficiency and work safety.
